Something to look forward to...

At Ipswich hospital they have a great place called the John Le Vey centre. This centre is in the Woolverstone ward where Ruth is having her treatment. They put us in touch with a charity called "Something to look forward to". They offer gifts to people who are having treatment/recovering from cancer. These gifts are donated by individuals or companies as a way to give families going through this things for them to look forward to. It is all about making memories.

Ruth had an email from them with an offer for Saturday just gone to attend a Cambridge City football match as VIPs for the game. Ruth Applied and we were gifted this experience. It was for 4 people, so we went as a family and as it was a game being played in Histon where Ruth's brother and family live, We asked Zeb's cousin to join us.

We arrived at the ground at 2pm where we were met by a guy called Wayne who is the director of the company sponsoring the game that day. From the arrival at the carpark we were treated really well. The carpark attendants even told us they were to look after us really well. We went upstairs to the chairman's lounge where we were offered some drink and the boys got some snacks. Wayne then took Me, Zeb and George down to the tunnel area where we got to have a look around the physio room. We then went into the home changing room to meet a player of two and had a talk through of the tactics with a guy called midge showing us around (Neil Midgely, played for Ipswich town 4 times). We were then taken onto the pitch to sit in the dug out and then went to watch the goal keepers warm up. We headed back to the chairman's lounge.

We went to sit in the stand to watch the first half and treated the boys to a scarf and Zeb got a snood (I have no idea as well, but he likes it) they managed really well to watch the game and Cambridge went into half time 1-0 up. At half time were treated to a lovely buffet where they had even catered for Ruth's clean dietary requirements and told her what she could and couldn't have. Wayne also asked us if we want to choose the man of the match and give him the bottle of prosecco after the game.

The second half was interesting. the boys spent most of the time playing in the chairman's suite with some other children and didn't really pay attention to the game at all. It was a good game for the level they play at. I would definitely go and watch them again. The game finished 2-1 to Cambridge City and We awarded the Man of the Match award to Jaraid Robson (number 10). He scored one of the goals.

After the game the boys got to give him the award and they also received a framed signed programme each and Zeb was given a football signed by all the players. It was such a lovely day out. It was tiring and Ruth was feeling the tiredness a lot but is was worth it for the lovely memories and we are very thankful for the gift we received from Wayne and the charity.

We also got to meet Francesca from the charity and it was great for Ruth to speak to her and for them to have a good chat about gifts and the charity and Ruth's diagnosis and treatment.
